Do you have to pass an exam to get into medical school in America

Do you have to pass an exam to get into medical school in America?
I live in Belgium, and here you have to pass an exam to get into med school. Is it like that in America too? Because I've been looking at different schools across the globe, and I don't know if you have to pass an exam in the U.S., so if anyone could tell me? I'd particularly like to know for Stanford University.

In the US, you first need to earn a bachelors degree in something and take the premed courses before you can apply to med school. After that, you need to get a good score on the MCAT. Then you can apply for medical school.

All American medical schools require all applicants to take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). It is usually taken about 12 to15 months before the student plans to begin medical school. The MCAT is given in France in May and August and several times a year in the UK. Students whose undergraduate instruction was not in English must also pass the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). You may register for these tests on line. Registration must be completed several weeks or even several months before the test date. American medical schools require the equivalent of a US bachelor's degree in any academic subject for enrollment. The student must also have completed certain classes in science, math and English which are listed on the medical school websites. Stanford Medical School admits fewer than five per cent of applicants. Most applicants for medical school in America apply to at least ten medical schools of varying difficulty of admission. International tuition fees at American medical schools are very expensive, about $40,000 a year or more for four years. These fees do not include living expenses which are at least $15,000 a year. Living expenses will probably be at least $20,000 a year at Stanford which is in a very high cost area.
