About living in Belgium. Will it be a wise move

About living in Belgium. Will it be a wise move?
It has been my wish for many years to settle down in Belgium, and now I am ready. But how and where to know the details? Is Belgium a safe country for my family? Will English be a comfortable language there or does one have to know their language?. Try the suggestions below or type a new query above.

Why would you move to a place you know nothing about?

Please at least have a month visit ... before you decide anything ... the town of Bruges is nice ..the rest is pretty boring some English is spoken by younger people ...they speak flemish Dutch, French, German

I don't think Belgium is boring; I'm an expat living here for an indefinite period, three years so far. You will want to learn one of the two main languages or else you'll be depending on other people for a lot. If you're planning to settle in Brussels that will probably be French (which travels well too), but if you want to live in Flanders they'll want you to learn Flemish. Bruges (Flemish : Brugge) is pretty but very touristy and I'd never want to live there, unless you work there and then I guess it would be OK. A lot of people love Antwerp and most people there speak English, but if you really want to get things done -- like deal with taxes, government things, get electric service, etc. -- you will either need to speak one of the country's languages or, again, be asking for help a lot. Oh, another town a lot of people really love is Leuven, and almost everyone I've talked to there speaks English (though their native language is Dutch/Flemish).
