My daughter went to Cancum on a class trip. According to her there was no age restriction as long as you can see above the bar. Beware of being taken advantage of, i.e. sexually and financially. Mexical Law enforcement can be complicit with the bar owners and locals down there who seem to prey on young tourists

In the entire country of Mexico the legal age to consume alcohol is 18. You will be asked for your passport and given a color coded wrist band indicating the age of minority. Your parents have to sign a permission slip for you to enter Mexico. They will be held accountable for your actions and you will be held until they arrive and pay a fine and damages . if any. Cancun is in a world of its own and is not even close to representing all of Mexico`s culture. It is one big resort designed to attract tourists from around the globe and they did a very good job of doing just that. If you get away from the Bar while you are there, there are some fabulous archaeological sites on the Yucatan. What I mean by the Bar is, you will have to go to the city for a drink and good luck getting out of there, What you have heard about Mexico is true but it is rare. I am in Acapulco (For a Funeral) and was in a bar where there were obviously two 14 or 15 year olds quietly sipping away on their beer , just last night. They are cracking down on corruption , in fact , there is a war going on. It used to be when a Cop approached and asked how old you are and you say 18 and he says you look 14. Up with a 100 peso bill and say how old do I look now? the Cop says 17.....another 100 pesos.....and now? Si senor welcome to Mexico. lol

The legal drinking age is 18. Most places won't risk getting fined or their alcohol permit revoked just to accomodate the tourists, anymore. They won't turn you in or anything, but they will refuse to serve you.

You have to be 18

The official drinking age is 18. Fortunately though, the drinking age is enforced nice and laxly, so it's unlikely to be a problem for you. If your all inclusive resort won't serve you, just visit a local convenience store and they'll almost certainly sell you some chilly cervezas. Remember...the custom is to raise your glass and say, "Salud!"
